this film (& this dude) be trippin'

courtesy crushingdeath

The Holy Mountain is my new favorite film and the filmmaker, Alejandro Jodorowsky, my new hero.

The movie's much better than the trailer lets on. But the trailer does show enough of the over-the-top scenes so one might say "yes, looks cool" and "no, don't show it to the kids or Auntie Bess".

Thanks to far hipper folks at GLOWING RAW and exp etc for shining the light long & brightly enough to dawn on these far shores of Marblehead.

One of my all-time favorite flicks! It's like drugs without the drugs. And it's even more fun with 'em!

Ah, hell yeah, Thom . . .

Even w/o benefit of enhanced neurochemistry, I launched into Holy Mtn. at the deep end without any clue. Which is the very best way.

(Those who haven't seen it quit reading this, read nothing else about the movie and go see it.)

Yeah, that movie is mind altering in the best way.

If you find the DVD set of AJ movies (thanks be to the regional library system), not only are the other movies (El Topo, Fando y Lis, La Cravate) cool, but the commentaries on all of them are full of stories re cast & production (like why Geo. Harrison didn't end up starring in The Holy Mtn.). And there's a documentary about Jodorowsky, La Constellation from the '90s, where he dramatically reconstructs the documentarian's family tree.

Sure he's just another mortal and puts his tarot-reading pants on one leg at the time. All the same, the dude rocks worlds we ain' been to yet.
