That Mall's Sick And That Store's Dead! (aka Sickmalls) posts photos of a Bennigan's and a Steak & Ale. Evidently, I'm not alone in wearing a black armband for Butters.
Not being much of a theme restaurant goer, I find my interest is more about how these places become landmarks in current and (later on) remembered space. These two are on the outskirts of what was Coliseum Mall, Hampton VA.
Meanwhile, PCL LinkDump is high on the LSD with Cary Grant and Esther Williams tapping the subconscious with el 'cid. (What, no word of Groucho?)
All that and Hammer time, too.
And The Boat Lullabies presents Who We Were: A Snapshot History of America.
Also ran across USO Clubs in World War II, full of cool picture postcard images.

my friend Flickr
I've kinda avoided Flickr--either as a place to post photos or to browse through others'. Blogs alone are overwhelmingly vast, so I've not been too game.
The Sickmalls aligned Look In the Tunk has been pretty much the extent of any Flickr visits. The retail pics esp. cover the area where I grew up.
But after reading about el estratographico on PCL LinkDump, I thought time to take another look around.
Having not scratched the surface, I got lost in the Urban Decay pics from the Southern US. I think Urban Decay overall covers the world, but even this geotagged slice is a lot to bite into.
This may be my favorite so far, with the green and red painted brick.
And this one. And this. And, oh, yeah--this one.
No doubt, faves of your own await.

the Plantation Drive In
No pics of it, but a good description:
http://cinematreasures.org/theater.php/11868/
Or you can find old Newport News VA theatres and such:

Neat stuff at this site on other old theatres. Check it out.
Also on uberkayness: a related post on the Newmarket Theatre behind the old Newmarket Shopping Center.

Coliseum Mall Flyover to be demolished
My personal take on this can be summed up thusly:
Whoa . . .
Check out the coverage at the SickMalls blog (aka That Mall's Sick And That Store's Dead).
Used to go to Coliseum Mall a bunch as a kid with my mom. The flyover was a distinctive piece of highway then & now. But the mall is gone and the flyover's on its way out.
Demolished malls are the new urban renewal (as in "brown is the new black").
