complex as you wanna be

Bill Altice of the Karen Cooper Complex recently commented quoting what a slew of neat blogs (Mutant Sounds, for instance) said of the crazy sounds these youngsters were putting out circa '81.

But five seconds into the first tune on KCC's Shinjuku Birdwalk, no recommendations were necessary.

Hail, yeah, y'all, let's break some waves . . .

UPDATE--"Jerkin' Pretty" video as embedded here and on good ol' YouTube.

well prepared

Extended Piano from Stephen Cornford on Vimeo.

A kinetic sound sculpture. Two guitar strings are attached to two bass strings of an upright piano. Mechanised bows play the guitar strings, whose vibrations resonate sympathetically through the whole piano. The sound is entirely acoustic.

Actually the above, cool as it is, is my second favorite. Works For Turntable posted here by Everyday Listening you really gotta see. And hear.

here begins the tale of Danger Island

Be ye wary of sunken chests full of Mardi Gras beads and the pirates who love them.

Not convinced? Check out this great page of Danger Island video and info.

the one & many Chiltons to which we listen

courtesy goodfeelinggs

For more & better reasons than any one favorite song or era taken on its own, losing Alex Chilton has been an esp. hard kick in the teeth. Maybe with Spring on its way or something . . .

Deferring now to these many fans/proponents/mourners:

mrdantefontana and Donna Lethal of PCL LinkDump

Kicksville 66

If Charlie Parker Was A Gunslinger . . .

Pathway to Unknown Worlds

Singer-Saints

And Now the Screaming Starts

Monster Movie Music

While thinking about the wraiths of Chilton and Dickinson cavorting in a spectral Trans Am.

And of other people/places/things gone way on up & out.

this film (& this dude) be trippin'

courtesy crushingdeath

The Holy Mountain is my new favorite film and the filmmaker, Alejandro Jodorowsky, my new hero.

The movie's much better than the trailer lets on. But the trailer does show enough of the over-the-top scenes so one might say "yes, looks cool" and "no, don't show it to the kids or Auntie Bess".

Thanks to far hipper folks at GLOWING RAW and exp etc for shining the light long & brightly enough to dawn on these far shores of Marblehead.

the Gobbler

Before my drifting into suspended animation, those two words will beat out "Rosebud".

As seen thanks to PCL LinkDump, the whole crazed thing called The Gobbler. Go now.

the Great Santa Convergence of '09

A Basement of Curiosities is switching on the Santa Moog.

Magic Carpet Burn brings us a spacefarin' Santa (as well as the Three Stooges).

And Cotton Candy Truant presents Our Santa of the Flying Cupcake Bakery.

Meanwhile, People of Walmart has sighted Biker Santa on his stylin' new ride. (Tho' those antler handlebars seem to tell a sad & gruesome tale . . .)

And whoa, wait, this just in from Chateau Thombeau: Santa's flying first class on the cover of Jet magazine. As none other than Esther Rolle. Rock on . . .

And and and: on Sexy People, the Red and the Black dovetail nicely in Santa and Goths.

And again: a Merry Christmas Santa from Pathways To Unknown Worlds.

And, oh, hey, Aloha, Santa from Hooked On Stereophonic.

insert clever robot related title here

My servos are majorly glitching so . . .

Robots! on North of Onhava offers up a fun and jargon-free look at our imminent enslavement by cybernetic beings.

Nerdbots, as seen soaking up the open bar at Chateau Thombeau, are the very best friends money can buy.

Lovingly fabricated by thrift store adventurers, they no doubt come with a boilerplate waiver for buyers to sign: "In the event of a silicon insurrection" etc. etc.

Speaking of electronic BFFs, Furbys evidently roam the earth amongst the People of Walmart.

And for those looking forward to spending the holidays with a robotic master race, Magic Carpet Burn's playlist, Magic Christmas Burn, has just the tune for you.
